Vegetable prices soar as Mandi Board employees continue strike

Vegetables have become costly in State capital. The shortage of vegetables has also arisen as mandi remains locked due to ongoing protest of Mandi Board employees. Now gradually, vegetables are going out of reach of poor and middle class people due to increased rates. Potatoes and tomatoes are the common dish items in every home. But their prices have swollen.
 
Potato is being sold at Rs 40 per kg while tomato is being sold from Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg. The green vegetables are also sold at higher price. Sponge guard is being sold in retail at Rs 60 per kg. Likewise, bottle guard rates are between Rs 50 and Rs 60 per kg. As vegetable prices remain high, poor and middle class people are having a tough time. The shortage of vegetables have also erupted as mandi employees remains on indefinite strike following which mandis are closed.
 
“Indefinite strike of Mandi Board employees is continuing across the State, including Bhopal. So far, no one has come from Government side to speak to us over the issue,” said State President of Mandi Karamchari Mahasangh Madhya Pradesh Jaswant Singh Thakur talking to ‘The Hitavada’.
