PERSISTENT efforts of Cycle Polo Federation of India bore fruits as its players have now become eligible for government sports quota jobs, informs Gajanan Burde, General Secretary of the federation. After recommendations of the Sports Ministry, Government of India, the Department of Personnel and Training that comes under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, cleared sportspersons representing 63 sports as qualified for being absorbed in services under the sports quota available in various Central Government departments.

For considering their request, federation’s president Raghuvendra Singh, Burde and all the office bearers thanked Kiren Rijiju Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Earlier, cycle polo players used to get jobs in defence departments but under the new policy, the players will be benefited as they will be considered for posts in other Central Government departments.

“The news is very important for growth of the sport. We welcome the decision of Sports Ministry and thank all those who helped us. It will motivate and encourage youngsters to take up the sport of cycle polo as they might look it as a career opportunity now. I also hope the players’ performance will reach newer heights,” remarked Burde.
