THE condition of the college student who lost one of her eyes in stone pelting at a speeding train near Bhilai-3 railway station last year, is reported to be miserable. Though she was operated for the injury during treatment but her wound still leaks and she has to clean it hourly to avoid stink. She has appealed the Government authorities and also social workers for financial assistance.
 
At about 6:30 pm on October 11 last year, Vaishali Dewangan (21), daughter of Ramkumar Dewangan, a resident of Shardapara, Camp-II, Bhilai was traveling from Raipur to Durg by Intercity Express when some unidentified miscreants pelted stones near Dabarapara, after the train passed Bhilai-3 railway station. In the incident Vaishali Dewangan sustained grievous injuries in her right eye and nose leaving her bleeding profusely. She lost one of her eyes in the incident. Vaishali Dewangan told ‘The Hitavada’ that her wound is still wet and puss oozes out and it stinks if not cleaned hourly.
 
She said that after the incident the surgery was performed at AIIMS, Raipur but a corrective surgery is needed for healing up the wound completely. She has to undergo the operation at a hospital in Bengaluru during October and that she is in dire need of financial assistance. She informed that however she was extended financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh by the local MLA but it was fully spent on buying medicines and traveling. Vaishali Dewangan also said she is from humble family background and after clearing Pre Polytechnic Test (PPT) she secured a seat in the Government college. She was pursuing career in IT field and the incident came as a major setback in her career pursuit.
 
She also informed that she was denied compensation by railway as she could not produce the railway ticket. In this regard she said that besides the serious injuries she was in a state of shock and hardly aware of all her belongings until she was hospitalised and relieved of pain.When contacted Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, District Collector, Durg informed that he would direct the authorities concerned from the district administration to look into the matter if the victim girl submitted the detailed report of the incident. R Sudarshan, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Raipur Division, South Eastern Central Railway (SECR) also opined that there may not be any provision as per rules but certain cases could be considered on humanitarian ground.
