INDIA’S actions against China’s hostile tactics are not limited to the military level alone. It has to be on guard in several other spheres, including pharma industry, where China has the ability to hurt the Indian interests. The latest application by a pharma firm to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) seeking investigation into the alleged dumping of Vitamin C by Chinese companies reaffirms the dirty tactics adopted by Beijing to destabilise India. China accounts for two-thirds of India’s bulk drug imports and the country covertly resorts to dumping of material in the Indian market that severely impacts the domestic industry.

After the latest border tensions, India has taken a tough position against unfair Chinese trade practices as it is committed to protecting domestic industry under the government’s Make in India campaign. The DGTR must ensure a level-playing field to domestic industries against unfair practices adopted by China. Anti-dumping measures have been put in place against Chinese companies under the new policy. Cutting down on imports and helping the domestic industry with more stimulus needs to be the future course of action.
VIRAT’S HOPE

ONE enigma that intrigues cricket lovers is Virat Kohli’s abject record as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The southern franchise always came as a dud in the tournament despite top-class players in its ranks. Kohli’s brilliant record as India captain is in total contrast with his disastrous stint with RCB. As he heads out to set the record straight in the ‘bio-secure’ IPL scheduled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the champion player is hoping for a “breakthrough season”. Kohli feels he is in a different zone this time around with a welcome “sense of calm” and “most-balanced” about the squad. A reality check is just around the corner for Kohli and RCB.

And this is perhaps the best chance for the team to change its fortunes. For too long the team, full of big stars like AB de Villiers, has flattered to deceive. The unique setting for the tournament in this edition and the long lay-off due to coronavirus pandemic can work as a spur for Kohli and RCB. The Indian captain always thrives on challenges and this IPL presents him a big test to ace. It will also be a test of his hunger and desire to prove his leadership.
