Amidst the threat of depriving of online classes, results held back, Chhattisgarh Students-Parents Association (CSPA) on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Commission for Protection of Child Rights to demand action against schools which threatened to stop online study or have held back exam results over the payment of fees. On the occasion, Commission Chairwoman Prabha Dubey assured the association of actions. Earlier, parents had staged a protest at the school against the threat given over fees. The tense atmosphere was controlled with the intervention of the police.

Parents are growing in anger over the school fees during the pandemic. The ultimatum by school administration made them angrier. Schools also sent messages to many parents, warning them of issuing TC to their children. Furious over such arm-twisting, parents reached the office of District Education Officer Raipur, but he wasn’t found. Then the parents led by Association’s President Nazrul Khan went to the office of the Commission, where they handed over a memorandum to Prabha Dubey.

They informed her that School Administrations published advertisements on newspapers and portals to put pressure on parents for payment of fees with a warning of stopping the online classes on failing to make the fee payment. Taking cognizance of the situation, Commission Chairwoman has promised of taking appropriate action and she also asked the parents to present their complaint with the Police and then approach to the District Administration and the Commission if the action isn’t taken.

The parents had also gone to the Holy Cross School at Shailendra Nagar, where the school had withheld last year’s result of children and were threatening to throw them out of the school. The principal immediately locked down the school and called up the police on seeing the angry parents. The principal sent teachers for discussion while hiding itself. Teachers clarified that the results weren’t released owing to lockdown declared after the examinations. They also talked about sending results on Whatsapp and also assured of not stopping online education of any child.
