Cleanliness Fortnight at ICAR’s Directorate of Weed Research

The Indian Council for Agriculture Research’s Directorate of Weed Research has organised Cleanliness Fortnight and conducted a number of programmes to create public awareness. Addressing the concluding day programme, Director J S Mishra said on the call of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, all Ministries of Government of India and their departments orgnaised cleanliness fortnight from December 16 to December 31. Accordingly, the Directorate of Weed Research also organised a number of programmes and apprise people about the significance of cleanliness.
 
Dr Mishra informed about research and publicity done by the Directorate. While sharing detailed information about the on-going cleanliness drive, he said institution orgnaised public awareness programme at nearby schools, colonies, villages etc. He also informed farmers about the method of adopting protected farming with technical knowledge and to make manure from the weeds, crops residues occurring in the field. He appealed to the farmers to save fertility power of the soil through the use of such manure.
 
He while discussing waste and crop residue management as well as the techniques of keeping reservoirs clean, said it is also necessary to pay attention to cleanliness of mind apart from external hygiene. Expressing views, S D Pimprikar, senior Geologist said sanitation habit can create a healthy society. He stressed the need of collective efforts to free society from plastic waste that obstructs sanitation.
