A Bhopal-based Homoeopath couple has invented a genetic inheritance prediction card (GIPC) to figure out the possibilities of transmitting genetic diseases like Sickle Cell Anaemia, Thalassemia etc in children of couple carrying such diseases. After rigorous research work Dr Nishant Nambison and wife Dr Smita Nambison, Assistant Professors at Homoeopathic Medical College, Bhopal, have designed GIPC to determine transfer of inherited diseases of couples to their children. Through GIPC, a couple having monogenic disorders can learn about the probabilities of transmission of their diseases to their child even before marriage.

It will also help them in selecting their life partner and giving birth to a healthy child. Dr Nishant Nambison, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, said, “GIPC will help marriageable youth with history of monogenic disorders immensely and will also help in selecting their life partner and planning their baby. It will significantly check increasing numbers of sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia in children in future.” Dr Nambison added that disease prevention with help of GIPC technology is extremely simple and inexpensive remedy as one can use it at home to determine inheritance of the disease to the future child with cross examination with spouse.

Along with patients of sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia, GIPC will also benefit patients of haemophilia, cystic fibrosis, Tay Sachs disease, fragile X syndrome and Huntington’s disease. Around 3 million sickle cell and thalassemia diseased babies are born every year and majority of patients belong to Central India. Patients, mostly from tribal community, belong to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Gujarat are affected with these incurable diseases. This invention to check monogenic disorders in future babies could prove a boon in medical science to eradicate and prevent inherited diseases from parents.
