The workers of Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh will stage ‘Ghantanaad’ agitation in front of the residence of Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh on January 11 at 9.30 am. The agitation will be held for its demand to fill more than 12,000 vacant posts of police personnel in the State. The recruitment process in Police Department is pending since last three years and despite the slogans given by the State Government from time to time, the Mahavikas Aghadi-led State Government had stalled the process.

This shows the Government in Maharashtra is not serious about the filling of vacant posts in Police Department in State. For this demand along with long pending demands of OBCs in the State, the Ghantanaad agitation will be held, said President of Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh, Dr Babanrao Taywade while addressing a press conference here on Saturday. “The Government of Mahavikas Aghadi came to power in Maharashtra. Immediately after resuming power, the Government had announced to conduct a mega recruitment drive in police force. Even after fourteen and a half months, the Government had not fulfilled its assurance. Considering the present geographical conditions in the State, the present police force is not sufficient to handle law and order situation in Maharashtra.

As number of posts are vacant, the Government has no intention to fill these posts. The Government’s apathy in filling the posts has resulted in rise in crime in the State,” Dr Taywade stated. Last year, Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh had approved the mass recruitment of 12,538 police officials. At that time, Deshmukh said that, this decision would empower youth in villages hit by unemployment due to coronavirus (COVID-19). Though Maharashtra has been considered as a progressive state, unemployment is on the rise. More than one lakh posts are vacant in Police Department. As the Government is reluctant to fill the posts, the eligible candidates are not getting jobs and they are also crossing the age limit.

If this would continue, then the youths could never get jobs in future, he expressed. The Ghantanad agitation will be led by Dr Babanrao Taywade and MLC Adv Abhijeet Wanjari. Sharad Wankhede, Ishwar Dhole, Surendra More, Trisharan Sahare, Sanjay Pannase, Rajesh Rahate, Dilip Bhoyar, Dilip Gomase, Ganesh Nakhale, Uday Deshmukh, Nilesh Kodhe, Vinod Hazare, Shubham Waghmare, Sushma Bhad, Kalpana Mankar, Vrinda Thakre, Rishab Raut, Veena Belge, Nanda Deshmukh, Rutika Daf, Vedanti Zade, Kajal Kadukar, Shweta Pannase, Nandkishore Raut, Nishikant Chaudhari and others have appealed the members to participate in large numbers.
