Acting tough against shopkeepers and vendors who sell and store banned plastic carry bags, the Health Department of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, on Monday, conducted drive in areas under division no 3 and realised heavy fine from erring shop-keepers. Senior officials also seized huge stock of banned plastic goods.
 
Municipal Commissioner, Anoop Kumar Singh informed that the health department is conducting special drive and taking against shopkeepers and street vendors who use and sale inferior quality plastic carry bags within municipal limits. Singh said senior officials right from Assistant Health Officer to Chief Health Inspector, Health Inspector, Ward Supervisor and Sanitation Supervisor have been conducting drive in markets and other public places and realizing fine from erring shopkeepers for selling banned plastic carry bags or good made of the same.
 
He informed that senior officials, on Monday conducted drive in Gwarighat area and issued challan to 19 shopkeepers. They also realized spot fine of Rs 4,050 from them. Officials also seized plastic bottles, plastic carry bags and other single use plastic goods from their possession. Municipal Commissioner Singh said the State Government has banned manufacturing, transportation, storage, sale and use of plastic carry bags. Hence, the Municipal Corporation is making all efforts to check manufacturing, sale and use of sub standard plastic bags in the city.
