After a long break, the Anti-Encroachment Department of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC), on Monday, conducted drive in Red Zone areas and removed a number of temporary structures and seized commodities of street vendors. Senior officials of the department informed that the anti-encroachment squad carried out the drive in Civic Centre area and removed kiosks, makeshift shops and commodities decked in Red Zone.

The JMC employees also seized commodities from vendors. Senior officials informed that the Anti-encroachment Department had repeatedly urged street vendors to avoid placing shops in red zones. But, they always encroached the areas prohibited for decking shops. Likewise, small shop-keepers also pay no ear to JMC’s warnings and erect makeshift shops along main roads.

They put up commodities on roads and hinder traffic movement. Such illegal act creates inconvenience to commuters and also make traffic jam like situation on busy roads. Hence, to take strict action against the illegal act, anti-encroachment squad conducted drive in civic center area and removed kiosks and make-shift shops. Senior officials said the JMC has developed Green, Yellow and Mobile Zone for the street vendors to do business without obstructing traffic movement. Likewise, it has also made Red Zone and restricted entry of vendors in the specific area. But, the vendors and shopkeepers erect temporary structures in the restricted area. Hence, to deal sternly with them, the anti-encroachment department conducted drive and removed the illegal structures.
