SAKSHI Ambekar, Shreyas Gadhve and Shadab Pathan won gold medals on opening day of the District Junior Selection Trials which got under way on Tuesday at three different venues of the city. The meet is organised by Nagpur District Athletics Association (NDAA). Sakshi won gold medal in the 100 metres event in Under-20 girl’s category. The SB City Club sprinter clocked a timing of 13.89 seconds. Khushi Wasnik of Jai Athletics Club finished second in 14.02 secs. In the U-16 boys 100 metres, Om Itkelwar of Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal won gold in 11.75 secs. Adarsh Bhure won the Under 20 boys’ gold crossing the finish line in 11.76 secs. In Shot put event, Shreyash Gadhave of Track and Field Academy won the yellow metal with a throw of 12.24 metres. He was followed by Jayant Warambhe of Om Sai Sporting Club (10.98 mtr) and Shubham Sarve of HTKBS Club, Hingna (9.04 mtr). In long distance run, Shadab Pathan clinched the gold medal in 5000m. Pathan, an athlete of Track Star Athletics Club, finished the race in 16.04.77 secs.

 

Earlier, the competition was inaugurated at three venues. Dr Sharda Naidu inaugurated the meet at Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physical Education. Gurudev Nagrale, President of Nagpur District Athletics Association was also present. At SB City College, Sakkardhara, Prof Dr Sujit Maitre inaugurated the meet in presence of Dr Sanjay Chaudhary while at Jyotiba College of Physical Education; Principal of the college Dr Vijay Datarkar declared the meet open.

 

Dr Surendra Tiwari and Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Secretary, NDAA were also present.
