Dr Ashutosh Carpenter, a PG student who presented his paper based on research work by Dr Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Breast and Thyroid Cancer Specialist, has been awarded with Dr C Palanivelu Best Paper Award
 
 
The Department of Surgery, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital is continue to establish new milestones in the research field under the leadership of HoD, Professor Dhananjay Sharma. Adding another feather, Surgery Department of NSCBMC won national award from Association of Surgeons of India for research work by it’s faculty.
 
Dr. Ashutosh Carpenter, a Post-Graduate student who presented his paper based on the research work performed by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Breast and Thyroid Cancer Specialist, has been awarded with Dr. C Palanivelu Best Paper Award (first position) by the Association of Surgeons of India at the national-level. The very low cost innovation by Dr. Sanjay Yadav has been awarded Dr. C Palinvelu Best Research paper award (First Prize) by Association of Surgeons of India. It may be mentioned that the breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in India and delay in diagnosis leads to death of atleast 50% patients.
 
Diagnsosis of breast cancer requires core needle biopsy. Device to perform core needle biopsy costs around 3400 INR. Due to this high price many patients forego evaluation. Dr Sanjay K Yadav made a very low cost device using simple syringes in just rupees 200. Now poor patients can get a diagnosis using this technique in 10 times lower cost. This work was presented by Dr Ashutosh Carpenter in Association of surgeons of India’s national conference and was appreciated by everyone. Now they have given it first prize. Head of the Surgery Department, Professor Dhananjaya Sharma has been a constant motivator for low cost solutions to our local Indian healthcare challenges. This research work carried out in department of Surgery will benefit many patients from poor background. Dean Professor P K Kasar has been a constant supporter and stimulator for research in NSCB Medical College.
