Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year, in recognition of Lieutenant General (later Field Marshal) K M Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on January 15, 1949. The day is celebrated in the form of parades and military shows in New Delhi as well as at all Headquarters. Army Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country Today, India celebrated its 73rd Army Day. Sudarshan Chakra Corps organised wreath laying at Sudarshan Chakra War Memorial. General Officer Commanding, Lieutenant General Atulya Solankey, Sena Medal laid the wreath. The event was also dedicated to gallant soldiers of Madhya Pradesh. A high tea with veterans was also organised.
