Tiger’s carcass recovered in Pench, no foul play reported

Carcass of an adult male tiger was found near Khapa nullah between compartment numbers 1465 and 1467 in Gumtara Circle of Pench Tiger Reserve. No suspicious evidence was to not be found and viscera were preserved for further scientific investigation to ascertain the reason behind the death of the big cat.
 
Deputy Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, M B Sirsaiyya informed that a patrolling team of forest guards found the carcass of adult male tiger on January 14 between compartment numbers 1465 and 1467. Senior officers of forest headquarters, Collector, Chhindwara, and Superintendent of Police and officers of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) were informed about the incident. Receiving the information, Pench Tiger Reserve, Deputy Director, M B Sirsaiyya along with Gumtara Circle In-charge, SS Kalveliya, Veterinarian, Dr. Akhilesh Mishra, dog squad and NTCA representative, Rajat Thanekar reached the spot and started investigation into the case. In the search of around one kilometres radius of the spot but could not find any kind of suspicious activity or evidence. Due to the night hours, the autopsy was carried out the next day on Friday as per the standard operating procedure of NTCA. In the autopsy, all the organs and parts of tiger were found intact and viscera were preserved for scientific investigation and ascertaining reason behind the death of tiger. The carcass was set ablaze as per protocol of NTCA in presence of senior officers.
 
Labourer injured in attack by tiger in Lalbarra

A villager was mauled by a tiger in village Khairgondi in compartment no 441 under Lalbarra forest range. the victim was rescued and admitted at Community Health Cedntre and his condition is reportedly out of danger.
 
Labourer , Shivprasad Sahare, son of Kishan sahare, resident of Murjhad, Khairgondi had gone to work in brick klin. When he reached near the canal, a tiger pounced on him. He jumped into the canal to save his life. Then the tiger went away and then he came out of the canal and informed villagers. Villagers then called 108 Ambulance and the injured man was taken to community health centre. Doctors attended to him and he was given stitches in the jaw. Forest Department has provide immediate financial aid of Rs 1000 to the victim.
 
 
Leopard gets trapped in cage set out for man-eating tiger
A leopard got trapped in a cage planted to catch the man-eating tiger at Van Gram Kopijhola under the South General Forest Division. As this information was received on Thursday, a large number of villagers reached to see the leopard. Forest staff also reached the spot. After several hours of work, the villagers moved away from the cage and the leopard was released in the forest of Surekha Beat in Barghat range. This has been confirmed by CCF of Seoni Forest.
 
It may be mentioned that in the past, a tiger killed Sonwati Bhalavi, resident of Kopijhola under Ugli Police Thana area and Aditya Bhagat, resident of Khairi. After this, the angry villagers demanded to catch the tiger. The Forest Department has kept cages at different places to catch the tiger. But the Leopard got trapped in one of the cage in village Kopijhola. Earlier, people had stopped leaving homes after seven pm after announcement made by Kotwar’s in the village area. The forest department team was also executing patrolling in concerned area.
