COVID-19 menace could not suppress the enthusiasm of Jabalpurians who welcomed the New Year 2021 with great zeal. Amidst the severe cold weather, groups and a large number of families and youngsters celebrated the first day of New Year at picnic spots in and around the city, on Friday.
 
All the city parks, gardens and picnic spots in and around the city remained jam-packed with a joyful picnic atmosphere. People of all the age categories celebrated the New Year in their own ways. Elderly citizens started their everyday routine by offering prayers at temples and Bhajan – Kirtan while youngsters had get-together parties in restaurants, parks and gardens.
 
Huge gathering of youngsters was witnessed at gardens, parks and picnic spots. Along with the families, groups of school and college going students celebrated the first day of New Year amidst natural beauty of Dumna Nature Reserve, Bhedaghat, Lamhetaghat, Bargi Dad and other parks and gardens. City parks are the most obvious place to have an urban picnic, but there are many more places in adjoining sub-urban areas that are full of great joy of natural beauty and peace.
 
In Jabalpur, Bhanwartal Park in Wright Town, Tagore Park in Sadar, Shailparn and other parks and Dumna Nature Reserve remained first choice of residents to celebrate picnic within the city limits. Bhanwartal Park witnessed huge crowd as groups of youngsters were seen taking selfie while several families enjoyed day out on first day of the year. Same was the condition at Targore Park where a large number of children enjoyed swings and slides with their families. Similarly, huge gathering of devotees was seen at the banks of river Narmada right from the mid-night at Gwarighat and Tilwaraghat where they performed worship of goddess river Narmada and prayed for fulfilling their wishes. Groups of students and families celebrated picnic at the banks of river and Jilaharighat, Lamhetaghat and Tilaharighat.
