DEVASHREE Lavhe of Nagpur won silver medal in 400 metres run on the opening day of the State Junior Selection Trials Competition which got under way at Pimpri-Chinchwad. Devashree, an athlete of Om Sai Sporting Club, Umred clocked a timing of 59.00 seconds to finish second. Shadab Pathan and Riya Dohatare won bronze medals in their respective events. In the Under-20 boys’ category, Pathan finished third in the 10,000 metres run with a timing of 32 mins and 19 secs.
 
The gold medal was won by Vivek More of Kolhapur who finished the race in 32 mins and 17 secs. Sushant Jethe (32 mins 18 secs) of Satara won silver. In Under-20 girls category, Nagpur district captain Riya won bronze in 5,000m run. She finished the race in 18 mins 49 seconds. The gold medal went to Satara’s Akanksha Shelar (18 mins, 38 secs) while Prajakta Shinde of Kolhapur won silver (18 mins, 40 secs). Similarly, Neha Dhabale of ProTrack and Field, also won bronze medal in 400 metres hurdles in 1 min, 10 seconds. Devashree is coached by Praful Bele. Shadab and Riya are athletes of Track Star Athletics Club and practice at Reshimbagh ground under Ravindra Tong. Neha is coached by Gajanan Thakre. Secretary of Nagpur District Athletics Association Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Gurudev Nagrale, Nagesh Sahare, Dr Sanjay Chaudhary, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Dr Vibekanand Singh, Dr Aditya Soni, Ramchandra Wani, Prof Bantiprasad Yadav, Umesh Naidu, SJ Anthony, Archana Kottewar congratulated the medal winning athletes.
