Two months after 17 vehicles were damaged by goons in Narendra Nagar area, three cars were set on fire by anti-socials in Imambada late Saturday night. The incident left the residents of Untakhana Layout terrified. The cops are checking the CCTV footage to identify the culprits. A police official said that cars of Amol Patil (38), Sankalp Sivcharan Wankhede (32) and Viveksindhu Taksande (40) were set on fire by an unidentified person. Many cars were parked in front of the houses of residents. However, only three covered cars -- Two Renault Triber and a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga -- were targeted by the accused persons.

One Telbumde noticed the fire and informed his wife at around 1.30 am. The woman alerted wife of Patil. Patil family immediately ran towards the vehicle and alerted neighbours. The residents themselves started pouring water on the burning cars. They managed to douse the flames after efforts of an hour. Staff of Imamabada police station also rushed to the spot and started investigation. The police have recovered CCTV footage of the area in which a man was seen walking towards the cars.

The car was purchased by Patil in September while Wankhede’s car is just three-month-old. Both are owners of Renault Triber. Imamabada police have registered a case under provisions of Indian Penal Code. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar and DCP Zone IV Dr Akshay Shinde visited the spot and took review of investigation. DCP Dr Shinde said that minimum two to three persons were involved in the crime. “We are checking footage of CCTV cameras installed on the main road to identify the culprits,” he said. It may be mentioned that three miscreants had ransacked 17 vehicles, including 14 four-wheelers, and set a car on fire in Borkute Layout in Narendra Nagar on October 30.

Car covers torched Investigations revealed that covers of the cars were torched by the accused with matchsticks without using petrol or kerosene. As a result, the car caught fire as the car covers are made of plastic and polythene. DCP Dr Ashok Shinde said that the samples have been sent to forensic laboratory.

Resident alleges illegal parking by Trillium Mall A resident said that there was constant quarreling with management of Trillium Mall over parking of vehicles. “Many customers and staffers of the mall were parking their vehicles in front of our homes. We have complained to authorities about the nuisance. But no action was taken so far,” the resident said.
