Assistance from Babasaheb Waghmare, Vidhan Bhavan Library Head to be sought

After becoming Speaker of Maharashtra State Assembly, Nana Patole has introduced several new things, made some changes in old things and his initiatives remained in the limelight. Now, on Monday, Nagpur witnessed a historic event wherein the permanent office of Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat at Nagpur started functioning. Now, like the Vidhan Bhavan Mumbai, Nagpur’s Secretariat too will work for 365 days.

Secondly, it will have a well-equipped library similar to the one at Mumbai. It is an initiative of Patole for which he would be seeking assistance from B B Waghmare, the Chief Librarian of Mumbai Vidhan Bhavan. Patole after taking over as Speaker tried to provide altogether different face to this post. People and different organisations started approaching him with several demands and he did not disappoint the people. In fact, as per one calculation, Patole’s emails have more hits than that of emails of Chief Minister. He gave opportunity to younger members to speak in the first session of State Legislature held immediately after new Government of Mahavikas Aaghadi assumed power. Om Birla, Speaker of Lok Sabha too had brought new system wherein new members were given chance to speak first. “I felicitated 79 candidates in State Legislature, who cleared civil services examination.

All these candidates are from Maharashtra. It was for the first time that such felicitation was observed by the people. Secondly, I have decided to telecast the Vidha Bhavan proceedings live on Youtube. Otherwise people have to read the reports either in newspaper or watch it on electronic media. But it will be live on Youtube. It will be a unique activity taking place in any State Legislature in the country,” Nana Patole pointed out. Vidarbha has 62 MLAs. They have to go to Mumbai for every work related to Vidhan Bhavan Secretariat. Now onwards, they can come to Nagpur’s Secretariat and get their works done. Secondly, I think Library is an important part of Secretariat. I am planning to have well-equipped library at Nagpur to be set up on the lines of Mumbai Vidhan Bhavan. The library will be made available to students, researchers of this region.

The 62 MLAs, MLCs, or any other leader of any party can avail the facility,” said Patole while talking to ‘The Hitavada’. The library is brought to Nagpur in every State Assembly Session, the benefit of which is availed by the people of this region for that limited period. But Patole’s initiative to set up the library in Nagpur too will surely help people of the Vidarbha region. “Now, the Vidhan Bhavan will be open for all whether there will be session or no-session. People can come, visit, move in the premises to have glimpses of the historic heritage building,” pointed out Patole.
