Most black spots in MIDC, Sonegaon divisions need blinkers, reflectors

Though some black spots on Nagpur roads have been removed, there are still black spots on city roads that can lead to serious accidents. The Sansad Sadasya Apghat Niwaran Samiti under the leadership of Dr Vikas Mahatme has taken serious cognizance of it and made the authority to swing into action. Recently the committee had discussed the issue with District Collector Ravindra Thakare and pointed out 14 such black spots in MIDC and Sonegaon traffic zones It is Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) that first brought to everybody’s notice the black spots on roads.

It attracted everybody’s attention towards these spots which according to the institute can lead to serious accidents. The organisations working in road safety sector have taken note of it. One such organisation named Road Accident Disaster Management and Research Centre too is working with the Sansad committee. Recently the committee members under the leadership of Raju Wagh visited spots in MIDC and Sonegaon. They not only pointed out the black spots but suggested the measures too. These spots include Aathwa Mail, Waddhamana, both parts of national highway number 6; Dongargaon, Rajiv Nagar, I C Chowk, Chinchbhavan Pulia, Mauja Jamtha, Dhamna, Dattwadi Chowk, Maruti Seva Amravati Road, Khadgaon Turning, Shivangaon Phata, NEERI Point.

The committee members visited all these spots, inspected every minute things. They recommended blinkers, having speed-breakers, reflectors, Zebra crossing and lane marking. According to committee the speed limit board is very necessary. The roads coming from localities and joining main road should face the speed breaker at that junction. If there is no speed breaker then the vehicle may jump on the main road and accident take place. Apart from blinker the reflectors too are very important. The reflectors can help in avoiding accidents, observed the committee members. The committee further added that range pavement marking needs to be done and metal beam should be kept in road dividers. Committee also observed, at some points the light is not enough.

It affects the visibility of the object if anybody is driving the vehicle. There are several examples where accidents have taken place due to lack of adequate light, so high mast lights are to be installed along with street lights. Wagh told ‘The Hitavada’, “The boards that are instructing drivers about speed limit, drive vehicle slow are to be put on display especially near Chinchbhuvan bridge.” The committee has also recommended to have overbridge between Jamtha and Dongargaon. According to the committee the service roads at some spots are to be widened. District Collector Ravindra Thakare along with Dinkar Manwar, Road Transport Officer; officials of PWD listened to the committee members led by Padma Shri Dr Vikas Mahatme, Rajya Sabha Member and assured to prioritise the measures suggested by the committee.
