After maintaining the fuel prices for about a month, the domestic oil marketing companies have once again pushed up petrol and diesel prices. The prices have been witnessing a hike for the past two days. On Thursday, petrol price hit its new high of Rs 91.34 per litre while diesel touched Rs 81.62 per litre mark. Earlier on Wednesday, petrol price was at Rs 91.11 per litre and diesel was at Rs 81.34 per litre. It is important to note that between December 7, 2020 and January 6, 2021 petrol prices have not seen any change.

During this, period petrol was sold at a price of Rs 90.85 per litre in the city. Similarly, diesel prices also remained unchanged during the period when it was available at a price of Rs 81.06 per litre. Though the fuel prices in India are revised daily as the country has introduced the dynamic fuel price method, petrol and diesel prices remained static for about a month giving some respite to consumers. However, with the price once again started going up, consumers are expressing concern over it. Some of the experts believe that high prices of fuel would lead to price hike of various essential commodities in the coming days.
