Dr Anil Hirekhan appointed Registrar of RTMNU

Two academicians from Nagpur have been appointed as Registrars of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) and University of Mumbai, on Friday. Dr Anil Hirekhan has been appointed as Registrar of RTMNU and Dr R G Atram as Registrar of University of Mumbai.
 
Confirming the news about his appointment, Dr Hirekhan told ‘The Hitavada’ that he was appointed as Registrar of RTMNU ‘on deputation’. “If any post is vacant or not having full-time occupant for a long time, the Government can appoint a person fulfilling the criteria prescribed by University Grants Commission to that post on deputation. This can be done under Section 8 (5) of Maharashtra Public Universities Act,” he said. Regarding his top priority, he said that there were several things but he would speak about it after taking charge of the office.
 
Dr Hirekhan was serving as Deputy Registrar, Academic Section, RTMNU. Since the retirement of Dr Puranchandra Meshram on June 30, 2018, the post of RTMNU Registrar did not get full-time occupant. Dr S P Kane, the then Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU, had given charge of the office of Registrar to Dr Neeraj Khaty. Later on, Dr Khaty got appointed to Laxminarayan Institute of Technology and continued to hold additional charge as Registrar of RTMNU. Now, Dr Hirekhan has been appointed as Registrar of RTMNU ‘on deputation’. In another development, Dr R G Atram was appointed as Registrar of University of Mumbai. Dr Atram was serving as Director of Institute of Science, Nagpur. A known name in the field of Physics teaching, he has to his credit several research papers.
 
The Section 8(5) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act states, “Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, if the circumstances so require and the State Government considers it necessary to do so, it may appoint, on deputation, a suitable person possessing the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of the Registrar, Finance and Accounts Officer or the Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, for a period of not more than one year at a time
