Gosikhurd project will be completed in three years, assures Thackeray

“I have started reviewing various ongoing development works in the State from Vidarbha region and the ambitious Gosikhurd project will be completed in next three years,” said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and assured to provide required funds for the project. Similarly, the project affected people should be rehabilitated properly and priority should be given for starting projects so that these PAPs can get jobs, he added.
 
The CM paid a visit to Gosikhurd National Irritation Project on Wainganga river on Friday. He addressed a meeting after inspecting ongoing work of the project in Paoni tehsil of Bhandara district. MLAs Narendra Bhondekar, Raju Karemore, Raju Parve, Principal Secretary of CM Ajoy Mehta, Additional Chief Secretary of Irrigation Department Vijaykumar Gautam, Divisional Commissioner Dr Sanjeevkumar Gautam, Special Inspector General of Police Chiranjeevi Prasad, Executive Director of Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation Rajendra Mohite, Superintending Engineer Ankur Desai and many public representatives were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister sought detailed report of the project right from its launching and proposed irrigation capacity of the project. He also asked information about the functioning of Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation. He further inspected the local hydropower project.
 
Thackeray reiterated that he has started reviewing ongoing development works in the State from Samruddhi Mahamarg in Vidarbha. As large funds are needed to complete these projects, planning will be done after considering the financial condition of State. Pending works put burden on State exchequer, hence the Government is trying to complete the works in time by overcoming all hurdles.
 
Notably, the Gosikhurd Project to be completed with estimated cost of Rs 18,495 crore, is an important project in Vidarbha region that will benefit Nagpur, Bhandara and Chandrapur districts. The project has potential to irrigate 2,50,800 hectare land and to store 1,146 million cubic metre water that include 740 usable water storage.
