Preventive steps against H5N8 bird flu starts in Bhopal

After H5N8 bird flu cases have been confirmed in eight districts of Madhya Pradesh, preventive steps have been started in State capital Bhopal on Friday.
Veterinary doctors have suggested to start spray of disinfect and special vigilance is being given to the selected areas where birds usually flocks. Van Vihar National Park has been also asked to be on alert and informed about each activity to the veterinary officials. Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has also released guidelines for the tiger reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks to give special attention to the water bodies and few others areas where birds usually flock. All tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries have tighten the safety provision for birds in their premises and keeping special vigilance on migratory as well as local birds. Experts have also suggested burying the carcass of birds after found to be dead and also take their sample on mandatory basis. Areas where birds like crow, cuckoo, hen etc have been found dead, will be sanitised to kill the infection. Forest Department has also asked to disinfect the suspected areas and be alert while offering food to the animals. Field directors have been asked to monitor the water resources and immediately send the sample of birds if found to be suspected. Divisional Conservator of Forest Rajnish Singh said that advisory has been released to the field directors. They have been directed to do monitoring of water sources and migratory birds inside the sanctuary and tiger reserve and also send the blood sample for further laboratory testing. Samples of hen, cocks from nearby poultry, market has been also sought for the testing.
