Various competitions were organised on the occasion of International Girls Day on October 11 at different schools of Raipur district. Winners were awarded certificates and medals in a simple programme at Indian Red Cross Society on Monday. As per information received from official sources under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, enacted to stop female foeticides and arrest the declining sex ratio in India. The act banned prenatal sex determination. Based on the Act debate, painting, poster, extempore, essay writing and other competitions were organised at JR Dani Girls School, Naveen Saraswati Girls School, Government Higher School Siltara, Dharsiwa, Sivni, Abhanpur, Sarvodaya, Arang and Priyadarshani Government Girls school Tilda-Nevra. It’s worth mentioning that the aim behind organising International Girls Day is to create awareness among girls on challenges they face and their rights.
 
During prize distribution and felicitation ceremony Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr Meera Baghel was the chief guest. She advised girls to take balance diet, Iron folic acid tablet to keep Hemoglobin level high. Healthy mind lives in a healthy body therefore one must maintain good health. Through a quiz competition Manish Majarwar, District Programme Manager stressed over physical and mental development of girls. Dr Pragati Jaiswal, District Advisor on PCPNDT Act gave information that sex detection before birth is an offence. One may get 5 years imprisonment and there is provision of fine of Rs 1 lakh. Juveda Anwar Khan, Block Programme Manager of Dharsiwa block and Ashwani Pandey of Abhanpur block programme managers were present during the programme.
