CITY-BASED Anti-Corruption Unit of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday booked Gopika Mankar, Woman Sub-Inspector, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Warora, for allegedly demanding Rs 60,000 from the proprietor of a firm to settle a criminal case registered against him. According to CBI sources, a case under Section 143 of the Railway Act was registered against Khomeshwar Vinayak Farakade, proprietor of M/s Cyber Space, Shiv Nagar, Bhadrawati, District Chandrapur, by the RPF, Warora station. To settle the matter, Mankar allegedly demanded Rs one lakh from Farakade. On September 4, Farakade lodged a complaint with the CBI. After negotiations, Mankar then allegedly asked him to settle the matter for Rs 60,000. As the Maharashtra Government vide its notification dated October 21, 2020 had withdrawn its general consent to the CBI to prosecute the accused in such matters, the CBI Nagpur had sent a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Home, Government of Maharashtra to accord consent in this specific matter to register and investigate the case. Accordingly, the Home Department granted its consent.

 

In the meanwhile, Mankar on Tuesday conveyed Farakade to deliver the reduced bribe amount of Rs 60,000 at her office. Subsequently, CBI registered a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mankar. Further investigations are being carried out by Police Inspector Kalyani Humane under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (CBI) M S Khan.
