Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), on Saturday, issued a notice to its office-bearer Dr Ashish Ranjit Deshmukh asking why he should not be suspended from Congress party. The notice has been issued following allegations of anti-party activities levelled against him. Interestingly, the letter signed by Devanand Pawar, General Secretary, MPCC, is addressed to Dr Ashish Deshmukh, General Secretary of MPCC. Citing the directives of Nana Patole, MPCC President, Pawar has asked Dr Deshmukh to show cause as to why he should not be suspended from Congress party. Pawar has stated that if Dr Deshmukh does not reply within seven days, he shall be ‘dismissed’ on the ground of violating the party discipline.

In the letter, Dr Deshmukh has been accused of anti-party activities. It makes a reference to Dr Deshmukh announcing support to rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in the recently held bypolls to Nagpur Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis in the district. During the campaign, photo and video of Dr Deshmukh attending the meeting for BJP candidate in Sawargaon circle of Katol tehsil had gone viral. Prakash Wasu had lodged a complaint with H K Patil, AICC Maharashtra In-charge, and Nana Patole. “The office has received several complaints regarding your anti-party activities. Chandrakant Handore, Working President of MPCC and Vidarbha In-charge, had even reprimanded you. Still, you did not mend ways. Due to your such activities, party’s atmosphere is getting affected,” states the letter.
