CHHATTISGARH Government’s Narwa Vikas Yojana has changed the fate of many reservoirs and water bodies across State. Under this ambitious scheme, a total of 38 lakh structures are going to be constructed in the catchment area of more than 8 lakh hectares of 1,962 rivulets across Chhattisgarh. Under the special initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and under the guidance of Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, the task of reviving a large number of water sources, rivers and ponds is being done for the conservation of groundwater in the forest areas of State. For this, an amount of more than Rs 392 crore has been approved in the annual action plan of State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) 2021-22 under the Narwa Vikas Yojana. As per information, 37.99 lakh structures for ground water conservation will be constructed in 8.17 lakh hectare watershed area of 1,962 rivulets. These water storage structures to be built under the head of CAMPA will ensure the availability of drinking water for the people and wild animals living in the forest.

Also, with the water storage in the rivulets, moisture will remain in the surrounding land. Besides, the source of income and greenery will also increase in the region. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief of Forest Force Rakesh Chaturvedi informed that under the annual action plan of CAMPA 2021-22 under Narwa Vikas Yojana, 96,850 structures are to be constructed in 50 rivulets of Guru Ghasidas National Park in Surguja and 13,559 structures are to be constructed in seven rivulets in Kanger Ghati National Park Jagdalpur. Similarly, 1,80,847 structures will be constructed in 93 rivulets of Indravati Tiger Reserve in Bijapur and more than one lakh structures will be constructed in 52 rivulets of Achanakmar Tiger Reserve in Lormi. Apart from this, 1, 23, 580 structures will be constructed in 64 rivulets of Elephant Reserve Surguja and more than 63,000 structures will be constructed in 33 rivulets under Research and Extension Jagdalpur. Apart from this, 64,775 structures will be constructed in 33 rivulets of Khairagarh forest division, 38,678 structures in 20 rivulets of Balod, 1, 54,475 structures in 80 rivulets of Rajnandgaon and 1, 35, 275 structures in 75 rivulets of Kawardha. There are many other places where such structures will be constructed with the main objective of conservation of ground water which is a necessity of the time.
