Even after the passage of 15 days of October, the admission process for engineering has not begun. The wait for starting of admission process is making students and parents anxious. Every year, the new session used to start in June. But in past some years the schedule has changed completely. The academic year now resumes in the month of August. University’s Academic calender is designed like that. But, since COVID-19 pandemic the academic year has moved further. Since last year, the academic year began in October as results got delayed and then subsequent procedure, too, got delayed. But, this year, it has crossed the limit as after mid-October there still are no signs of beginning of admission process.

 

Two days ago the result of Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) Advanced was out and parents heaved a sigh of relief. But, as far as Maharashtra is concerned, the results of Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) have yet not been declared. MHT CET would be the deciding factor in the admissions to engineering courses especially in state technical institutions. Parents are worried over several issues. If admission process prolongs further then the load of examination preparation on students would increase as they have to complete their curriculum within a short period. By the time they write first examination they have to keep themselves ready for the next examination.

 

One parent on condition of anonymity said, “We are neither able to take our children out nor able to ascertain in which institution our ward would be admitted. If our child doesn’t get admission in particular institution and if we have to go for other institution in other state, the rules out of Maharashtra are different. The admission procedure schedule in Maharashtra may not match with the schedule in other states. In that case our child may lose the chance to get admitted in the institutions in other State. Government must take some steps immediately in this regard else the academic loss would be irreparable.”
