Villages and Gothans of Chhattisgarh will soon get illuminated by the electricity produced from cow-dung.

The machines installed in Rural Industrial Parks of Gothans would be run on electricity produced from

cow-dung. Gothans will now become self-sufficient in terms of electricity. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will inaugurate the ambitious and historic project of electricity production from cow-dung, at ‘Kisan Sammelan’ to be organised at Basic School Ground of Bemetara district headquarters on October 2, on the day of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. All the necessary preparations for electricity production from cow dung have been completed in most of the Gothans in State.

On October 2, Chief Minister Baghel will launch the project of power generation from cow-dung at Sikola Gothan of Durg district and Bancharoda Gothan in Raipur district, and Adarsh Gauthan Rakhi in Bemetara district. Chhattisgarh Government was preparing for this project for last several months, and now it will be finally inaugurated on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Now, Gothans wil produce electricity from cow dung, besides manufacturing organic manure, doubling the benefits and incomes of Gothan Samitis and Women Self-help Groups.

It is worth mentioning that under the Suraji Gaon Yojana, Gothans have been developed in the form of Rural Industrial Parks in about 6,000 villages of Chhattisgarh. Manure production and other income oriented activities are being conducted by the women of the group. Electricity generation from cow dung is also being started from October 2 in Gothans. In the first phase, units for power generation from cow-dung have been set-up at Rakhi in Bemetara district, Sikola in Durg and Bancharoda in Raipur district. One unit will produce 85 cubic meters of gas. Since one cubic cubic meter produces 1.8 KW of electricity per hour, 153 KW of electricity will be produced per hour in one unit. In this way, about 460 KW of electricity will be generated per hour from the bio gas genset units installed in the above three Gothans, which will power the lighting system in the Gothans as well as the machines installed.

After the generation of electricity from this unit, the remaining slurry water will be used for irrigation in the bari and pasture, and organic manure will be prepared from the remaining residue. It is to be mentioned here that under Suraji Gaon Yojana, Chhattisgarh Government has approved the construction of 10,112 gothans in State for conservation and nourishment of livestock in villages. Construction of 6,112 gothans has been completed and made operational. So far, more than 51 lakh quintals of cow dung has been procured in gauthans at Rs 2/kg, in return Rs 102 crore has been paid to the villagers and cattle rearers. So far more than 12 lakh quintals of vermin-compost, super compost manure has been produced from the cow-dung procured.
