A special Court in Raipur has convicted a man for raping an 8-year-old girl in 2019 and sentenced him to life imprisonment until death.

The court of Additional District and Session Judge I Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), Raipur Shubhra Pachouri on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to Mohammad Hussain alias Salim (40) till he reaches his natural death for raping a minor girl, said Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Morisha Naidu. Salim was convicted under Section 376AB (punishment for rape on woman under 12 years of age) and a fine of Rs 50,000 imposed on him, added the SPP.

On March 12, 2019, Salim sexually assaulted the minor girl when she went to attend nature’s call during night hours. After spotting Salim exploiting the minor girl sexually, the victim’s father lodged a complaint with Tikrapara Police Station following which an offence was registered under relevant Section of IPC and POCSO Act.
