The Indian Army celebrates October 27 every year as ‘Infantry Day’ in memory of the first military battle of Independent India, when the 1stBattalion of SIKH Regiment landed in Srinagar airbase & displayed resoluteness & extraordinary courage to thwart the evil designs of Pakistan Army and tribal raiders. On this occasion, the Mahar Regiment Centre (MHC) honoured the front line unsung COVID women warriors who have contributed selflessly during the COVID-19 pandemic by felicitating them in a ceremony held at Subedar Suresh Chandra, Ashok Chakra, Auditorium here at their Centre at Sagar. Amongst the women who were felicitated are seven from each category of health workers, police women and sanitation workers from local hospitals, police stations and municipal bodies. SP Atul Singh also graced the occasion. In the ceremony a certificate of appreciation was awarded along with a token gift. Speaking on the occasion the Commandant stated that the contribution of all soldiers as well as citizens has to be there for nation building, national security and social causes.
 
Corona was an enemy which had to be combated and defeated in every city, street and house. All health workers, police personnel and sanitation workers had been the frontline warriors in this battle, and have fearlessly and selflessly performed their duties and defeated this unseen enemy. SP Singh, in his address, appreciated efforts of health workers, police persons and sanitation workers who have contributed selflessly and relentlessly during the pandemic. He also conveyed thanks to the Army for recognising the efforts of these frontline workers and that this action would motivate them more towards their duties. In her thanks giving address on behalf of all women felicitated, Suman Bai, a health worker,conveyed thanked her professional peers for appreciating their efforts and hard work and how it would motivate them to re-dedicate themselves to the national and social challenges certain to be witnessed in times to come.
