Raipur’s Khamtarai police have arrested a man for allegedly duping a 47-year-old person to the tune of around Rs 20 lakh on the pretext of a profitable land deal. The accused identified as Banshpati Patel (52), a resident of Shivanand Nagar under Khamtarai police station, was arrested on Sunday on charges of duping one Deepak Dharmani of Civil Lines area. The crime took place in May 2019. With the help of bogus documents, Patel allegedly locked a deal with Dharmani for selling around 20 acre land located in outskirts of Raipur.
 
As the agreement was signed, accused collected Rs 20 lakh from victim. During investigation, it came to light that by preparing bogus documents, the accused had showcased someone else’s land as his property. On the victim’s complaint, police registered an offence against the accused under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Accused is in judicial custody.
