NABARD team visits JNAU fields, labs to collect farmer-oriented details

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) team visited various fields, laboratories and research centers of Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) on Thursday to collect farmer-oriented details. Chief General Manager, NABARD, T S Raji Gain displayed special interest in Jawahar Model, developed by the University’s Principal Scientist, Dr Mony Thomas under which 29 varieties of crops can be grown by filling soil in sacks. NABARD emphasised to take this technique of farming to the fields. Vice-chancellor, JNAU, Dr Pradeep Kumar Bisen informed the team members about 16 types of bio-fertilizers being manufactured in the university and are used in 12 States across the country. He further updated the team about various work plans being prepared to multiply the farmers’ income to many folds. Senior Scientist, Soil Science, Dr H K Rai informed that uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers has increased the risk of cancer disease.
 
By making use of natural resources and proper management of fertilizers, the unbalanced environment can be improved to a large extent. Director, Field, Dr Deep Pahalwan said that production of high-quality seeds can become a source of employment. Principal Scientist, Dr Mony Thomas, Dr N G Mitra, Dr Gyanendra Tiwari and Dr Ashish Kumar explained about researches on medicinal plants, bio-fertilizer production and seed processing. District Development Manager, NABARD, Apoorv Gupta conducted the programme which was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by District Development Manager, Khalid Ansari. Others who were present during the programme include Dean, Agriculture Faculty, Dr Dhirendra Khare, Director, Research Services, Dr G K Kotu, Director, Extension Services, Dr D P Sharma, Director, Education, Dr Abhishek Shukla, Dean, Agriculture Engineering Faculty, Dr Atul Shrivastava, Dean, Agriculture College, Dr Sharad Tiwari, Dean, Student Welfare, Dr Amit Kumar Sharma and General Manager, NABARD, S K Talukdar.
