THE Union Cabinet’s decision to clear provision for mobile connectivity to 7,287 villages across five States is a step ahead in bringing the hinterland on the digital map of the country. Digitalisation has remained the Centre’s bigged priority, especially after the historic move of demonetisation five years ago. The digital platform has undergone a monumental surge since 2016 as the common man took to digital mode of payment even in rural areas. This is a big change in the thinking and culture of the local economy and it must be taken to remote villages with rapid provisions of mobile connectivity. With a clearance of Rs 6,466 crore for the national programme to give mobile connectivity to people in the hinterland, the digital gap is set to bridge with ease. It will be a big boost to rural economy due to the benefits that come with digital platforms. The move will also help in getting rid of the middlemen in the system as digital payments will reach directly to the beneficiary. What is further needed to enhance the experience is simplifying the navigation on the digital platform for the rural populace. A totally secured but simple platform can work wonders.
