Three Kamptee footballers to represent Daman & Diu in Santosh Trophy

KAMPTEE is known for its football and footballers who went on to represent renowned soccer clubs of the country including Mohun Bagan, Mohmedan Sporting and others. Continuing its tradition, three footballers from the town will be representing Daman and Diu football team in the forthcoming 75th Santosh Trophy Championship. These footballers, who dazzled in NDFA leagues moved out of city for better prospects and landed place in Daman and Diu team. Eighteen-year-old striker Zeeshan Akhtar, defender Mohammed Sohail and goalkeeper Mishkat Jamal all played in Daman Super League where they won the title representing Wing Bombay Heroes or Indian Heroes Daman under the guidance of coach Bimal Ghosh. Zeeshan and Sohail both played for Nagpur Football Club in NDFA Elite Division League. Sohail started as a centre back for Nagpur Football Club in Elite Division for three years. He also represented Young Muslim Football Club. Goalkeeper Jamal played for 11 Star Football Club at the age of 13 in NDFA Super Division League. He was then promoted and played for Rabbani and also won best goal keeper of the tournament in Khasdar Krida Mohatsav 2020. 
 
City’s Peter officiating in Santosh Trophy Christopher Peter of Rahul Sankrutyayan Club and a qualified WIFA referee is officiating in the Santosh Trophy (North Zone Group A) under way in Chandigarh. Peter, 27, will be officiating matches against Services, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir. Peter got selected after he passed the fitness test last month at LNIPE Gwalior. The tests include CODA Test, sprint running and high intensity test. Peter is the third referee from city after Stanley Gregory and Kalim Ansari to officiate in prestigious Santosh Trophy.
