In a major breakthrough, District Excise Department team nabbed an accused and seized 18-crates of English liquor of Rs 1.17 lakh and a Maruti Omni van of Rs. 1 lakh in Padwar village on Jabalpur – Niwas road, on Wednesday. The arrested has been identified as Vinod Bihari Singh Paraste (26), a resident of Pachpedi, Civil Line. Excise Control Room, In-charge, GL Maravi informed that under the direction of Collector, Karmveer Sharma (IAS) excise team started a special campaign against illegal production and trade of liquor under the supervision of Assistant Excise Commissioner, Ravindra Manikpuri. During the campaign, Excise Department was conducting vehicles checking in Padwar village on Jabalpur – Niwas road.
 
During the checking, excise personnel tried to stop a Maruti Omni van but its driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot. Excise team started chasing the suspected vehicle when the speeding van was over turned on the road. Excise personnel nabbed the accused who named himself as Vinod Paraste. In the search, team seized 18 crates illegal stock of country-made liquor amounting to Rs. 1.17 lakh and Maruti Omni van of Rs. 1 lakh from the spot. Excise Department has registered a case under Section 34(2) of Madhya Pradesh Excise Act 1915 (Amendment Act 2000) while further investigations are underway to identify the source of receiving illegal stock of liquor. The liquor consignment was seized by excise team led by Control Room In-charge, GL Maravi comprised of SI, Ravishankar Maravi, Head Constable, Narendra Uike, Constables, Prakash Ladiya, Mallaiyya Singh Kunjam and Anand Gupta.
