Highways determine growth of any country: Mopalwar

Attributing the economic growth of countries like the USA, China, Malaysia and South Korea to its strong network of roads, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of MSRDC Radheshyam Mopalwar on Saturday said that the highways actually determine growth of any country. He was speaking at the West Zone Conference on ‘Impact of Samruddhi Mahamarg on Nagpur and Surrounding Region’, organised by the Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI) Maharashtra Regional Chapter, Nagpur. Prof Dr P M Padole, Director VNIT, Nagpur, was the guest of honour while Dr D S Meshram, President, ITPI; Pradeep Kapoor, Secretary General- ITPI; and Prof Dr Jagdish Singh, Vice President of ITPI; and Dr Vijay Kapse, Conference Coordinator and Chairman, ITPI, MRC, Nagpur, were seated on the dias. Moplwar further said that China has managed to build many roads and expressways to the length and breadth of the country. “ China is now making development in many fields,” he observed.
 
Moplwar also said that the Mumbai - Pune highway has changed the face of the region,” he explained, highlighting that the Samruddhi Mahamarg will make similar miracles in the region. The Mahamarg will attract huge investment and give a boost to industrial development, he said. On the occasion, Dr Meshramwas honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his immense contributions to the field of planning both in academics and industry. Ramesh Bambhani, Past Chairman, MRC, Nagpur, presented the award to Dr Meshram. The first technical session was chaired by A R Patharkar, Former President of ITPI, New Delhi and the keynote speakers were Dr Manoranjan Parida, Deputy Director, IIT, Roorkee and N K Patel, Immediate Past President of ITPI, New Delhi.
 
Dr Akshay Patil, Head, Dept. of Arch. & Plng., VNIT, Nagpur was the rapporteur. K S Akode, Former President of ITPI, New Delhi Chaired the second session and the keynote speakers were Prof. Dr Sewa Ram, Professor & Head, Dept. of Transport Planning, SPA, New Delhi and Prof. Dr Prafulla Parlewar, Professor, Dept. of Urban Planning, SPA, New Delhi, who joined virtually for the lecture. Parag Date, Past Chairman, ITPI, MRC, Nagpur was the rapporteur of the session. Dr Vijay Kapse, Conference Coordinator and Chairman, ITPI, MRC, Nagpur gave the welcome address in the inauguration and closing remarks in the valedictory function. Dr Sarika Bahadure, Conference Coordinator and Treasurer, ITPI, MRC, Nagpur conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session along with Natasha Kapse. Dr Pankaj Bahadure, Executive Member, ITPI, MRC, Nagpur, announced the names of winners of ‘Best Thesis Award Competition for the planning student. Jagdish Rajurkar, Secretary ITPI, MRC, Nagpur proposed the formal vote of thanks in inaugural event and valedictory function respectively.
