IT WAS billed as a high-scoring and one-sided encounter between Young Muslim Football Club (YMFC) and Manganese Ore India Limited XI (MOIL). But the misfiring Momimpura-based former champions wasted chances galore only to win by two goals to nil in the second round match of JSW-NDFA Eite Division League at Dr BR Ambedkar Football Stadium in Suyog Nagar, north Nagpur on Tuesday. A goal in each half from Fahad Junaid (24th min) and Akshay Singh (52nd min) saw five-time champions YMFC record their second win of the competition, but their not so impressive performance disappointed hundreds of their fans present at the ground. The forwards looked too casual as they did manage to break the tight MOIL defence but fumbled at final juncture in the match. YMFC took the lead in the 24th minute when Mohd Shahrukh found the gap in MOIL XI midfield and passed the ball to Junaid. The striker made no mistake in slotting the ball home to score his second goal of the tournament. In the second half, MOIL XI did well to halt YMFC from scoring with the defence line guarded by Youraj Dudhnag, Christopher Santiago, Bhagirath Waghade and Ram Rautel. But on several occasions, YMFC failed to grab the opportunities missing the target at times. They finally managed to increase the lead in the 52nd minute. Mohd Sujahat and Junaid showed a great team work and dribbled through MOIL defence. The latter pushed the ball towards Akshay Singh at the left and winger drilled the ball to the far corner of the net to make it 2-0. On Wednesday: Qidwai Club vs Nagpur Blues at 2.30 pm.

REFEREE INJURES SELF IN A rare incident during the JSW Elite Division League, match referee Sourabh Gore injured himself and had to be replaced by the fourth referee during the YMFC and MOIL XI match of JSW-NDFA Elite Division League. The incident happened in the 77th minute of play when Gore twisted his knee. A YMFC midfielder passed the ball towards his forward to the left. Gore, who was in between the players tried to move himself away to avoid deflection. In the process, he mis-timed his jump which put pressure on his right knee. He tried to continue but was seen in extreme pain and sat on the field. Unable to continue, players of YMFC tried to lift him out of the field but Gore limped out himself. Fourth Referee Mohd Kalim finished the remaining part of the match. It is learnt Gore will be attending referees exam in a couple of days in Mumbai.
