No decision on nationwide NRC yet: Govt informs LS

THE Government has not taken any decision yet to prepare a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai also said that The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) was notified on December 12, 2019 and had come into force on January 10, 2020 and the people covered under the CAA may apply for citizenship after the rules are notified.
 
“Till now, the Government has not taken any decision to prepare National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC) at the national level,” he said in a written reply to a question. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai also said that as per the information available with the Ministry of External Affairs, a total number of 1,33,83,718 Indian nationals are living in foreign countries. He also said that as many as 10,645 people have applied for Indian citizenship in the last five years including 227 from the US, 7,782 from Pakistan, 795 from Afghanistan and 184 from Bangladesh. In reply to a question on whether the Government has formulated any scheme or policy for caste-based census, Rai said, “Government of India has not enumerated caste-wise population, other than SCs and STs, in Census since Independence.” ‘1,678 Kashmiri migrants returned’ AS MANY as 1,678 Kashmiri migrants have returned to Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 for taking up jobs under the Prime Minister’s Development Package-2015, the Government told Parliament. The Bill, 2021, which was introduced by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju amid din, proposes to amend the High Court Judges (Salaries and Condition of Service) Act and the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Condition of Service) Act.
 
Bill on cryptocurrency after Cabinet approval: Nirmala in Rajya Sabha

Nov 30 (PTI) FINANCE Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said the Government is working out a new Bill on cryptocurrency which will be placed in the ongoing session of Parliament after approval of the Union Cabinet. Replying to a series of questions in the Rajya Sabha, she said the new Bill takes into account the rapidly changing dimensions in virtual currency space, and incorporate features of the earlier Bill that could not be taken up. The Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021, has been included in the Lok Sabha Bulletin-Part II for the introduction in the ongoing winter session. The Bill seeks to create a facilitative framework for the creation of the official digital currency to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Bulletin said.
