NEW Zealand now stands on the threshold of an ever-expanding ban on tobacco smoking. The Government there has put a lifetime ban on tobacco smoking for all under 14 years of age, and a new law plans to keep rising this base-line every passing year -- so that the extent of tobacco smoking goes down in the larger society there. Though the tobacco or cigarette industry would resent such a move, it must be said that the Government in New Zealand is acting in the best interest of the people’s health.

It is only natural that the world will watch much interest how New Zealand handles this new challenge and to what extent it succeeds. But given the overall lawfulness of the larger society there, it can be said safely that the new campaign will meet with huge success. In fact, for too long a time has the world been controverting on the issue. it has thought of various moves such as printing of health warnings on cigarette packs. Despite all those good-natured efforts, the larger human society has larger numbers of people deeply interested in smoking of tobacco. Their doggedness to continue with the addiction has, thus, frustrated all the moves by healthcare segments of the world.
