Students of Government Physiotherapy College on indefinite strike for demands

Students of Government Physiotherapy College, Raipur observed indefinite strike in college premises for their long pending demands. Ravi Tiwari, a physiotherapy intern informed during a press conference that their 4-point demands are hostel facility for the students, revised stipend for internees, starting Masters of Physiotherapy course and independent physiotherapy Out Patient Department for the patients. He further informed that about 20 years back Bachelor of Physiotherapy course was started in State Capital which is lone college in entire State. Students from 31 districts of State come to study in the college and in absence of hostel facility they face trouble. Further there is not facility of PG course in Physiotherapy.
 
After completing four years course the students spend six months of internship at Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (BRAMH) where they get Rs 3,500 as stipend which has not been revised since 2012. He informed that in dental interns stipend was revised with hike of 58 per cent. It was informed that daily about 150-200 patients reach hospital for physiotherapy and it become difficult to accommodate them in a single room for which they need independent room. The students are staging dharna from December 13 strike will continue till the demands are fulfilled at the same time the services offered by the internees will be suspended.
