RAIPUR,

The Divisional task force of Railway Protection Force (RPF) have recovered unclaimed bags containing huge quantities of cannabis from an express train at Raipur Railway station, RPF officials said on Monday. As no one was arrested in connection with the recovery of cannabis from the train, the operation has raised several queries. However, sources in RPF here averred that an exercise has been launched to trace out the accused peddler. The personnel of RPF Raipur post seized two bags containing contraband from Puri-Ahmedabad Express (12843) at Raipur Railway station on December 19, said officials. The recovered cannabis would be weighing around 17 kilograms whose estimated market value would be around Rs 85,000, said the officials, elaborating that the seized cannabis has been handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP) Raipur.

“Acting on an input about two unclaimed luggage in Puri-Ahmedabad Express, the personnel of RPF swung into action and recovered the bags from coach number S2. During checking of the bags, large quantities of cannabis were recovered and thereafter, GRP Raipur was alerted,” said the officials. According to RPF personnel engaged in the exercise, passengers in the train’s coach were unaware about the owner of the seized bags. In this connection, GRP Raipur has registered an offence against unidentified persons under relevant Section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and started investigation, added the officials.
