Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai on Wednesday celebrated National Mathematics Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan for his extraordinary contribution to the field of science and mathematics. Having almost no formal training in pure mathematics, he made a substantial contribution to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. The programme was conducted in hybrid mode and it started with an introduction by professor P D Srivastava, Head, Department of Mathematics and a welcome address by professor Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Bhilai. Professor S Ponnusamy (IIT Madras), professor Neeraj Misra (IIT Kanpur) and professor Anupam Saikia (IIT Guwahati) registered their presence as esteemed guest speakers of this event, which comprised of talks on various topics, including Statistical Thinking and Number Theory. A quiz competition was also conducted for all the participants related to the Life and History of well-known mathematicians including general mathematical concepts. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Pawan Kumar Mishra.
