CITY shuttlers Mugdha Agrey and Ritika Thaker moved up in the Bangladesh International Challenge 2021 in progress in Dhaka on Thursday. Third seed Mugdha was just too good for the unseeded Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq of Maldives in the opening round of the tournament. Mugdha steamrolled Aminath 21-7, 21-3 in 23 minutes. She will take on Indonesia’s Bilqis Prasista on Friday in the evening session. Ritika, city’s top doubles player, is also participating in the women’s singles event. She did extremely well to beat Bangladesh girl Urmi Akter in straight game 21-12, 21-10 with the match lasting 22 minutes.

She plays fourth seeded compatriot Ira Sharma in the second round also in the evening session. Ritika will also be playing her mixed doubled first round match partnering Bokka Navaneeth on Friday. The duo will be up against the Indian pair of Nitin Kumar and Saumya Singh. Ritika is not participating in the women’s doubles as her regular partner, Mumbai’s Simran Singhi, has opted out of the event for personal reasons.
