To mark the 134th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Centre for Basic Sciences (CBS) in Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU) Raipur has organised National Mathematics Day. The two-daylong programme sponsored by Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology commenced on Wednesday and will conclude on December 30. The hybrid event started with the lightening of the traditional lamp and offering tribute to Srinivasa Ramanujan in APJ Abdul Kalam Seminar Hall of Centre for Basic Sciences. According to the information received, the inaugural Session was chaired by the professor Keshari Lal Verma, vice chancellor of PRSU while Dr Shailendra Patel, deputy registrar, was special invitee. Director of CBS Dr Kallol Ghosh highlighted the objectives of the National Mathematics Day and detailed the contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan as well as the importance of mathematics for development of the nation and mankind. Highlighting the contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan, convener of the programme Dr Govind Prasad Sahu spoke about the number theory and theory on cancer and other diseases.
 
Dr Shailendra patel addressed the event. Addressing the programme, professor Keshari Lal Verma highlighted the achievements of Ramanujan and urged all the participants to take inspiration from his life and do novel research work in the area of mathematics. Around 200 participants from various academic institutions like CBS, Govt Navin Girls college, Pragati College, Chhattisgarh College, SOS in Mathematics etc participated in essay writing, rangoli, poster making and quiz competitions. On the inaugural session, professor Kalyan Chakraborty, Director Kerala School of Mathematics, Kozhikode delivered online keynote lecture on Ramanujan theory. Moreover, mathematician Dr Sahadeo Padhye of Motilal Nehru NIT, Prayagraj also addressed the programme.
