INDIA’S contribution, intent and commitment to fight climate change is vividly reflected in its latest achievement in power generation from non-fossil energy sources. India has met the target of 40 per cent of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel in November 2021 itself. At the COP 21, India had made some highly confident pledges including zero carbon emission by year 2070 and electricity generation from non-fossil energy sources by year 2030. These pledges had come from Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) programme for climate change challenge.

While many countries in the world are still gearing up to fulfill their commitments on clean energy, India has almost reached the halfway mark much before the deadline of 2030 it has set to achieve 500 gigawatt of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources. This feat has been made possible due to the strong support the Centre has provided to fight a global problem. The ambitious clean energy goals announced during the Climate Change Conference need precisely this kind of backing from each country for the sake of our future. India has shown the way.
