NAGPUR Blues’ Mirza Moin Baig scored the 50th goal of the competition but Big Ben ran away with three full points registering their first win (2-1) in the JSW-NDFA Elite Division League Championship on Monday. The 50th goal of the meet came in the 16th match of the tournament with Baig registering his name in the record books when he stunned Big Ben in the second minute of play. Baig collected a ball fed from Saket Kanojiya from right and managed to beat a fragile Big Ben defence to slot the ball home. However, Big Ben, who have lost all their three previous matches, managed record their first win from four games with Aryan Raut (37th and 41st min) scoring a brace. The early setback forced Big Ben to increase their raids on rival citadel and Raut gave them something to cheer about when he drew parity eight minutes before half-time.

The striker took a powerful shot on the post but the ball rebounded from the cross bar and landed in front of him. Raut made no mistake in tapping the ball across the line beating the keeper. Four minutes later, Giftson Saji and Tilak Singh combined well at the right flank and the latter crossed an aerial ball towards Raut who once again managed to beat Nagpur Blues keeper to make it 2-1. Nagpur Blues attacked on Big Ben post relentlessly but the West Nagpur based side’s keeper Nayeemuddin made some breathtaking save to help his side earn first points after four matches. On Tuesday: Ansar Sporting vs Nagpur Academy at 2.30 pm. Big Ben goalkeeper Nayeemuddin collects the ball during their match against Nagpur Blues.
