This year’s Diwali festive season was challenging for electronic dealers in the city as fear of COVID-19 cast a shadow over demand. Post Diwali, electronic dealers felt that consumer demand would pick-up in a gradual manner with the onset of wedding season. They were confident that the ongoing marriage season would lift demand and brighten their future business prospects. “We anticipate that in the coming months there will be gradual pick-up in demand due to the wedding season. Already we are seeing signs of revival,” said Nihar Taori, Director of Taori Marketing Electronics Mall, Dharampeth while speaking to The Hitavada. The middle-class and lower middle-class consumers curtailed their spending this festive season. The enthusiasm and buying spree lasted for a week during Diwali. People bought things which were absolutely necessary for the household. There was good demand for electronic appliances like washing machines, dish washers, microwave ovens and geysers.

The demand for large size LED TVs and high value products were better. It was the result of high end consumer spending the targets were achieved. “Overall, we managed to achieve our targets, but the cost of achieving the targets were substantially higher. This years demand cannot be compared to 2020 as the markets were closed due to lockdown,” he added. A K Gandhi, Director of A K Gandhi Marketing felt confident that the marriage season would revive the demand for electronic products. This revival would be slow and steady, but continue throughout the year. There was a rise in demand for high end electronic products. The demand for dish washers, high end automatic washing machines and large size LED TVs shot up more than expectations. Apart from this, small size deep freezers were in great demand as Kirana and general store owners bought these products to expand their businesses. The refrigerator companies are offering their products with 10 year warranty on compressors which is attracting consumers in large numbers. Vedprakash Jaiswal, Director of Vedoms said, he was expecting market and economic conditions to improve gradually and sustain growth in demand for electronic products. Already things are improving and demand coming back due to ongoing wedding season.
