An action plan was prepared to make Sanchi a solar city. A plan has been made by the central government to develop one city in each state as a solar city. The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to develop Sanchi as a solar city keeping in view the tourism and proximity to the capital. This action was prepared in the meeting held in Sanchi under the chairmanship of New and Renewable Energy Minister Hardeep Singh Dang and in the presence of Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Prabhuram Choudhary. He informed that under Solar City project, a solar system of 6 thousand kilowatt capacity will be installed in the Sanchi grid system. Every household, agriculture and industry of Sanchi will be connected with solar system, this will boost the local economy along with reducing the electricity bill, pollution, need for government subsidy.
 
He expressed hope that Sanchi will become an exemplary model for other cities. Along with tourism, Sanchi will also have a distinct identity in the field of solar energy. He said that the department is making relentless efforts to achieve the goals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to make the state having more and more green energy. Madhya Pradesh has achieved a leading position in the country in solar power projects. 20 acres of land has been earmarked in Nagori village to make a ground mounted solar system in Sanchi. An additional 4 hectares of land will be identified for setting up phase 1.5 MW of solar system capacity.
 
Ministers Dr. Chaudhary and Shri Dang also visited Sanchi Stupa in the context of the project. They had a look at the potential areas of solar high mast lights at the entrance of the Stupa, Chetiya Giri Vihar etc. Principal Secretary New and Renewable Energy Sanjay Dubey, Managing Director Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation Vivek Porwal and senior officers were present.
