The Scheme of ‘Vivaad Se Vishwas’ has brought a very promising result in sorting out I-T disputes with 40 per cent of the total cases applying for resolution under the scheme. At a press conference on Monday, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh Principal Chief Income Tax Commissioner R K Paliwal said that the Government of India has introduced to reduce income tax pending litigation, generate timely revenues for the Government, help taxpayers end their tax disputes with the department by paying disputed tax and get waiver from payment of interest and penalty.

Also get immunity from prosecution. Second agenda of the conference was to inform about Faceless Assessment Scheme, under which taxpayers wouldn’t be required to come to the office and everything will be done through email. Officers from any state can probe cases from any other state. So, it will be a lot easier process.

The Central Government introduced the Faceless Assessment Scheme to provide greater transparency, efficiency and accountability in Income Tax assessments. Paliwal said that there are a total of 8,087 cases pending in Chhattisgarh, out of which, 3,265 have applied for resolution under the scheme. There are total of 36,000 cases in MP and Chhattisgarh. In both states, an average of 30% cases will be sorted under the scheme. Nationwide figures of people adopting the scheme stand at 1,00,000. Some of the cases are up to 45 to 50 year old. Paliwal considered the scheme to be a big success and hoped that the figures will grow even further and may level up with the past fiscal by March 31, 2021.
